Nothing is uploaded
Your file is read and cleaned on your own device. It's never sent to a server, so it's safe for confidential documents.
See before you clean
Every field we find is listed, from author and last editor to company, template and the software that created the file.
Checked afterwards
After cleaning, the new file is read back to confirm the metadata is really gone. Your content stays exactly the same.
About file
metadata.
What is metadata?
Metadata is information stored inside a file next to the content you see. Word, Excel and PowerPoint files keep the author, the last person who edited it, the company, the template, the editing time and the program that created it. PDFs store an author, title, creator and producer software, and creation and modification dates.
What does this tool remove?
For Word, Excel and PowerPoint it clears the document properties (title, subject, author, last modified by, keywords, comments, category, revision, dates), the application properties that identify people or software (company, manager, template, application, version, editing time) and all custom properties. For PDF it removes the whole document information dictionary and the XMP metadata stream.
What does it not remove?
The content of your file stays untouched, including comments and tracked changes. If those contain names, we show a warning so you can remove them in Word, Excel or PowerPoint yourself. Images inside a document may also carry their own metadata, such as camera details, which this tool doesn't change.
Can metadata show that a file was made with AI?
Sometimes indirectly. Files generated by AI tools are usually built by software libraries, which can leave traces like a generic author or a producer such as "python-docx" or "ReportLab". There's rarely a direct mention of the AI tool itself. Removing the metadata removes those traces.
Which file types are supported?
Modern Office files (.docx, .xlsx, .pptx) and PDF. Older .doc, .xls and .ppt files aren't supported: open them in Office and save them in the new format first. Password-protected PDFs can't be cleaned.
Is my file sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser: the file is never uploaded or stored. See our privacy policy.
